So, after spending a week in New Hampshire, all I could think about was the beautiful foliage. I decided to do a step by step lesson with my class so they could get a handle on painting all those leaves. Though beautiful to view, trees can be overwhelming to paint. We painted our gray background with acrylic. After it dried we finished the painting in oils. The key is to see each tree as a single shape. This was accomplished by creating large dark silhouettes. Mid tones were carefully applied on top of the darks. And finally we added the lights which helped zone in on the focal point of each painting. Below are the results of Deb and Kathleen. Kudos to both!!!
